Research Tools Grade: D
Overview:
The research tools available at Interactive Brokers are minimal. Offerings include such basics as company specific news articles and financial statements. Standard research tools such as analyst reports, an events calendar or a stock screener are nowhere to be found. There are some arcane technical tools available but most investors will find little use for them. For those that are looking for powerful fundamental investment tools, Interactive Brokers fails to deliver.
Details:
Company specific news articles are provided by MarketWatch.com while Yahoo! provides feeds from hundreds of news organizations.
Searching by stock symbol brings up a company profiles page, which contains insider trading trading activity, analyst ratings and SEC filings. Basic financial statements - balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flows - are also included. Here you can see the cash flow statement for 3M:
There are trading chat rooms and bulletin boards but I did not see much activity on either of these platforms.
